What's new?

Following updates to Welsh Government guidance, the new Allocation Policy has been reviewed to ensure compliance with the revised requirements.

The updated Welsh Government guidance confirms that anyone who is eligible for social housing can apply to and join the housing register, regardless of whether they have a local connection.

However, to ensure that applicants with a local connection to Pembrokeshire continue to be prioritised, those with a confirmed local connection will receive additional preference under the new Allocation Policy. Applicants with a confirmed local connection to Pembrokeshire will be placed in the appropriate housing band and awarded an additional Residential Connection preference.

The review of the Allocation Policy and the incorporation of the updated Welsh Government guidance has required significant changes to the Choice Homes @ Pembrokeshire IT systems. Unfortunately, this has resulted in a delay to the implementation of the new policy.

The new Allocation Policy is now scheduled to be introduced in February 2027. The housing register has, however, reopen to new applicants from the 28th October 2026.

This additional time will allow us to:
• Complete the required system changes.
• Implement the updated policy requirements.
• Contact applicants who have not yet completed the reapplication process.

Yes. Until the new Allocation Policy is implemented in February 2027, all property allocations will continue to be managed by the Choice Based Lettings Team.

There will be no weekly Choice Homes property adverts for applicants to bid on available properties during this period.

Available properties will be allocated to applicants based on:
• The highest housing band.
• The earliest registration date within that band.
• The applicant's selected areas of choice.

Adapted properties will continue to be allocated using the same criteria to applicants registered on the Pembrokeshire Accessible Housing Register (PAHR).

It is important that you review and update the areas where you would be willing to be rehoused, as this will ensure you can be considered for suitable properties.
