Arranging an exchange

If you find someone who you think you wish exchange with:

  • Contact them, and see if they are interested in setting up an exchange. View each other's properties.
  • If you wish to carry out the exchange you must contact your landlord before making any arrangements to move. You must get written permission, and sign relevant tenancy papers from your landlord before carrying out a mutual exchange.

The landlord may reasonably refuse an application for a mutual exchange because the property you are asking to move to is too large for your needs; has adaptations; or because legal action has been taken against the tenancy.

Approval for an exchange could be also delayed because of arrears of rent, or because of a tenancy issue, such as the condition of a property. Your property will be inspected before an exchange is approved, to ensure that it is left in reasonable condition for an incoming tenant.

This Register provides details of all those tenants within and outside of Pembrokeshire who have applied to the Register Partners and have indicated an interest in a Mutual Exchange. For more details of mutual exchanges to areas outside the County there are a number of websites listed under:

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/HomeAndCommunity/SocialHousingAndCareHomes/MovingHome (opens new window), which carry details of tenants seeking exchanges throughout the United Kingdom.

All Applicants on this Register have indicated that they are willing for their details to be made available in this Register.
